I am a woman who knows about transitions and I continue to learn about the process on a daily basis. Life is not static in my world. Ever.
I spent twenty years in corporate America in the male-dominated world (at that time) of investments, banking and navigating mergers. After years in the trenches finally reaching senior management and having that corner office, I had an epiphany (a.k.a. a vision brought on by total exhaustion and having “no life”). I realized that I was in no way close to leading the life I wanted to live and that I had strayed very far away from my own heart. Something had to give.
That “ah-ha moment” triggered a series of shifts that ultimately led to my WomanTalk Live Radio Show in Baltimore, the Girls Gone Great Scholarship Essay Contest, the Conscious Conversations Café panel shows, and my advocacy work for sexual assault survivors.
With some in-depth corporate background under my belt and after creating my business, Living in Your Heart, to provide “life” workshops and retreats for women, I turned my strategic acumen into a brand new concept – a radio show that would dive deep into women’s issues, while avoiding the cliché beauty, fashion and weight loss topics.
From early 2007 to the end of 2013, I grew WomanTalk Live from a broadcast radio show plunked down between male-focused programming and a national podcast, to a true community of women and men who actively engage in a more conscious conversation with me and each other every day. No longer on the air, we converse primarily through social media and my current blog.
During my radio time, I interviewed women and men from all over the country who are well-known for their accomplishments. I also talked with many unsung heroines – women who do great things all the time but just aren’t famous. Regardless of who I was having a conversation with, my goal was that it be open, informative, warm, thought-provoking and often funny – they were conscious conversations. That’s still my goal.
In June of 2014, my husband, Bob, and two cats, Minkey and Weasel, relocated to Woodstock, Vermont, a place we had fallen in love with on numerous road biking vacations and trips to New England… time to “live the dream.”
I thought I would continue my WomanTalk Live podcasts, but another loud message came up for me… STOP and see what comes up next. It’s time for something new. So, another transition period started and is continuing.
I’ve always loved the idea from Queen Mama Donna Henes in her book, The Queen of Myself: Stepping into Sovereignty in Midlife – that in between midlife power and maturity or the crone years – there’s this piece of life for “The Queen.” Yeah, that sounds about right.
So being a Queen reinventing and reimagining is what it’s all about now and I am LOVING it.
But, rest assured, I continue to have conscious conversations wherever I go and on social media and the blog.
I’m not done talkin’ yet.
And, if you’re on Facebook, ask to be a part of the Conscious Conversations Café private group where it’s just us women talking about whatever we need to talk about.
I’d also love to have you come on over to the Facebook WomanTalk Live page.
Consciously connected with you. I love that.
