  • WTL 5: Meet Lyn Hicks

Five provocative questions answered by an inspiring and fabulous woman  – a woman with something to say.

    WTL 5 - 02-07-13 - Lyn Stankavage Hicks

    Meet Lyn Hicks

Lyn Hicks is an educator of health, wellbeing and green living. Trained in Tia Chi Chuan, Aharaj Yoga, and ancient feminine cultures, she shares her yoga of living on her organic flower farm, Harmony Hill Gardens, in Pennsylvania.  A love of nature, beauty and grace inspires Lyn to share the power of feminine essence with other woman – educating them to live in connection with their bodies to allow their innate health system and intuition to strengthen. After doing this herself, it became natural to share with others through writing, videos and retreats at her farm. The Art Of Being A Woman is her passion and claim to her magnificence, strengthening our collaborative power with each other to change the world together into a more nourished placed.

People would be surprised to know that:  I was size 11/12 and at times 13/14 most of my life until I was 28 and had my daughter. I struggled with body image most of my life and did all the workouts, diets, plans and crazy ideas to beat emotional eating. Through my journey, I have learned the easy, simple ways to honor my body and allow it to take care of its self with size and shape. When I learned about a feminine body, the ways and gifts of it and techniques of self-care, I became the perfect size and remain that as I am a 5/6, 7/8 and haven’t owned a scale in a long time.

    The WTL 5:

What’s the conversation that changed your life?

Telling my husband I was pregnant. Together, that day, we decided to create a family. From that moment, I began to learn about nourishing a child, a man and myself in all ways. It began my journey as a woman, a feminine nurturing spirit, learning the ways of health and caregiver. I didn’t have to try to care about others – I had to care for my baby girl. Nutrition, what I did with her, and everything about living rightly became present. I started my health and wellness mission.

What are you most conscious of today?

That every moment is a chance to relax and notice.  As I move through the world, understanding my femininity, honoring my flowing nature and myself, I see the magic and beauty that I would miss from constantly thinking ahead or behind. All of the training and practice has built a way of joyful living where I am more free, open, flexible and clear. The more I relax and enjoy the moment, the easier life goes. Even when it is hard and challenging, it seems that all is for my learning.  Accepting and owning that gets us to live in the presence – which is what I am learning

What part of you have you yet to give voice to?

I think I, as most women at this time, have yet to honor, harness, love and enjoy my sexual nature and the creative energy I work with. As women, we have so many beliefs against ourselves and our power. The truth of it is that we are harnessing and using creative, sexual energy in a way men can’t. We don’t understand this Shakti of the East and the true beauty, richness and vitality of it. I am getting a voice to share my understanding and thinking about this. Being feminine, being sensual, being playful, magnetizing and delightful are ways of us. To share and open the conversation on this so we may use this energy rightly is the voice I am finding.

What’s the conversation women need to be having collectively?

Women need to be conversing about the healing that occurs when we come together.  Conversations of health, loving our body, grounding into it, and developing our intuition need to be discussed. Women need to be working together to nourish each other, and in turn the community, by gathering and practicing self-care together. Our true sisterhood is being forged at this time as we learn that to connect and collaborate is our gift of power – coming together to learn of our body’s true gifts and intuition, sharing tales in a very real way, and having “girl fun” that is natural to us. Beautifying each other, cooking and sharing nourishing food, massaging, dancing, healing each other, creating art and music – this is how we gain power and transform ourselves.  Our question has to be: when and where should we gather?

What needs to be said bigger, louder and stronger?

That woman’s qualities of sensuality, beauty, magnetism, sex appeal, creative energy, attraction, are not bad, sinful or dirty. These very wonders of our senses inspire us to beautify the world all around us in so many ways. From cooking, to decorating, to dressing, to makeup and movement – these are important and valuable qualities of the feminine spirit. That when we engage in our womanhood as the artists, the encouragers, the caretakers – from a spirit of self-nourishment first – we offer others so much more.  As we revel in our sensual, emotional natures, we awaken our intuition and it gives our lives a flow and direction like never before. We need to learn and share the feminine ways to self-development, rather than using the masculine system.  The masculine system is killing us, blocking our intuition and making us lack life luster!  We need to own our body and revel in it – not change and alter it. We are the nourishers of humanity and we must first balance that within ourselves so we can balance the global community. Take care of yourself so you may then take care of others.

Thank you, Lyn, for sharing your powerful voice with WomanTalk Live.
