  • On My Mind: The Summer List

    Thursday, May 30, 2013

    26e368f6012bbd571dd9e375facec373

Nobody likes them in January.  And, if you haven’t even started on the ones from the beginning of the year or let them fall by the wayside, why would you want to come up with a list of summer resolutions?

For me the answer is…. because anytime is a good time to start a good habit, try something new, get something done and take care of yourself.  And, halfway through the year is the perfect time to remind yourself just how awesome you are AND that you can create good stuff all the time.

So…. this summer, I am promising myself to start and/or do more of the following:

    • Visit a local farmer’s market once a week and stock up on fresh veggies and fruits for salads and daily juicing.  Since I started juicing about two months ago – I am in awe at how “healthy” I feel and the effect it has on my skin, much less all the other parts of my body.  I highly recommend it and if you dislike cleaning out a juicer, try one of the smaller ones like NutriBullet, which makes cleanup a lot easier.  And, put carrots, ginger and a ½ apple with any bitter veggies or ones that you aren’t totally enthralled with.  I never eat beets, but I love adding a beet and greens with those three flavor sensations to make it umm, umm good.
    • Play.  And then, play some more.  I am convinced that I have a lot of playtime to make up for.  My rigid “good girl” and “shame master” has kept me working too long and too much for most of my adult life.  And, deep down inside me is this child from long ago.  I just need to give her more chances to come out and PLAY!  That is definitely on the agenda for the summer and beyond.
    • Have more dates with my husband.  We go out at least once a week.  However, as long as “playing” is on the list, why not include him?  He really needs it and I know there is a little boy in there somewhere because I’ve seen him before.
    • Schedule my annual physical and whatever things I need to have checked – bone density, mammogram, skin.  While I’m having all this fun, I also want to make sure all my parts are in good running order.
    • Spend more time with friends – laugh, debate, PLAY, eat, sip wine or margaritas, and enjoy the richness that good friends bring.
    • Park myself on the patio as much as I can – to work, to read, to draw, to write, to do nothing, and to be with my hummingbird buddies.
    • MOVE more.  I love my brand new road bike and am riding at least three times a week.  And, the new routine is weights three times a week and the new Dance It Out video from Billy Blanks, Jr and Sharon Blanks.  Yep, Dr. Oz talks me into all sorts of things including Dance It Out.  My goal is to have this “moving” so a part of who I am that come cooler weather, I can’t imagine not doing it.
    • When I go on vacation… remember I am on vacation.  Down time is precious.
    • Savor every minute of every day and be in gratitude.

Ok… that’s it for me.  I’ll review them in the fall and see how good I was to me.  I’m planning on being super-good to me.

What about you?  Anything need to be put on your list – and, is summer the perfect time to start?  Would love to hear what you have going on.

Ann, I love this list! Thanks for reminding me to do these things. It’s sad when someone has to remind you to stop and have fun. I look forward to the show with Asara Lovejoy.

Linda, when you have the workaholic, must do it all now and do it perfectly gene, you have to be reminded. Plus it runs in the family. :o ) Have some play time this week!

    • Billy Blanks Jr.

We love you, and we are so glad to be part of your journey! Sharon Catherine Blanks and Billy Blanks Jr.
