WTL 5: Meet Amy Tippins
Thursday, July 11, 2013
Five provocative questions answered by an inspiring and fabulous woman – a woman with something to say.
Meet Amy Tippins
Amy Tippins is the Founder and President of RockScar Love Designs, a clothing company celebrating the women and their inner sassiness that comes from life’s scars. Amy created RockScar Love after learning how to work through her own emotional scars of liver transplantation. Her desire is to create a platform to help women tell their physical, mental or emotional stories, lessons learned and put a spunk back in their badonkadonk! She brings passion to fashion! Amy continually explores the beauty and depth of RockScar Love Designs’ message as she walks through life learning to accept her own sterility, Avascular Necrosis, organ transplantation and as a survivor of abuse.
People would be surprised to know that: Most people think I started RockScar Love because I know all the answers on how to deal with emotional scars and that I feel 100% perfectly safe in my own scars. The reality is that I still struggle with my emotional scars. My body is covered in so many physical scars that I don’t see them anymore, but my heart is covered in emotional scars. I realize that the day that my heart is void of any scars is the day that I have fulfilled my purpose on this earth. RockScar Love is about my own journey in finding peace as much as it is about helping other women to find their own peace.
The WTL 5:
What’s the conversation that changed your life?
I am not sure if it was a conversation or a relationship that changed my life, but about 7 years ago I had a relationship where my heart was celebrated versus my body. For the first time in many years I was reminded of my inner beauty. This relationship gave me back my heart. While that relationship is long gone, I was taught how to breathe life back into others. I learned how see beauty in pain. My boyfriend gave beauty to women he has never met over the years and I remain eternally grateful to him.
What are you most conscious of today?
That I have a long way to go. We all have something that we are ashamed of when we shouldn’t be and if we consciously work towards helping to heal the hearts of others then eventually, we will find the healing we are looking for ourselves.
What part of you have you yet to give voice to?
I was declared sterile in December. Not infertile, but sterile. No eggs in my ovaries and that caused me great heartache. I have spent entire days in the bed, cried to the point of not being able to open my eyes and wanted to punch friends and family. I still hurt – everyday. I have not given much voice to this part of my journey because I still do not understand my own pain. Maybe one day.
What’s the conversation women need to be having collectively?
We need to be open about our deepest pain and our darkness. With every story, we step closer to being healed. Sharing our pain will give hope and freedom to the women we share with. We will give new life to each other.
What needs to be said bigger, louder, stronger?
“I delight in you”. I am a very spiritual person, but not a religious person. I do not read the Bible that often or quote scripture, but this phrase I hear whispered into my heart every morning and it gives me hope.
