    • Relationship Recharge: Our Holiday Wish for You

      Thursday, December 19, 2013

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift which is why we call it the Present.”
      - Bil Keane

The days go slow, but the years fly by. Christmas is almost here once again and 2013 is coming to a close. This is the time of year to spend precious time with those we love, to give and to receive, to exchange good wishes and share love with family and friends.

It is also a great time to pause and consider how you have lived your relationships this past year. Have you made enough time for the ones you love? Has the time spent together been quality time? Did you carve out sacred time for your partner, husband or wife? What do you want to change about your partnership in 2014?

You and your partner, individually and together, have the power to create the relationship you want and deserve. Small changes can make a big difference.

It’s as simple as asking your partner in what ways does he/she need to receive more love from you, and making a conscious effort to do those things.

Believe us, the payoff is tremendous. We’re here to support you in your journey.

We are going to take next week off from writing our newsletter. But we will be back the first week of January!

Bob and I wish you and your families a joyous holiday and a new year full of love.

“We’re in a battle for our lives for things that really matter to us.There’s a shell game going on like I’ve never seen before.”
      - Senator John Kerry

It’s crunch time. Lists to make. Gifts to buy. Parties to attend. Families to visit. No wonder the weight of the holidays (no pun intended) generates stress on a relationship.

On an average day one of the most common complaints we hear from clients is, “We don’t have enough time for our relationship.” The burden becomes even greater leading up to the holidays. Without realizing it, we tend to put our partnership last on the list. However, it is vital for couples to consciously carve out some time for each other, even if it is in brief chunks.

Watch this video to hear Lori and Bob describe the biggest pitfalls that couples can fall into around the holidays and how to avoid them.

“As we struggle with shopping lists and invitations, compounded by December’s bad weather, it is good to be reminded that there are people in our lives who are worth this aggravation, and people to whom we are worth the same.”
      - Donald E. Westlake

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” Or is it? Holidays can be wonderful but they can also be the most stressful time of the year. Too much to do, not enough time; gifts to buy, food to cook, presents to wrap, plans to make, families to visit. Bob and I have 5 tips that will help couples avoid the havoc that the holidays can bring to your relationship.

Watch this video to hear Lori and Bob talk about the ways couples can come together to cope with holiday stress and keep the fires burning during the holiday season.

    • Relationship Recharge: What to Do When the Little Things Become Big Things

      Thursday, November 21, 2013

Fighting, when it airs grievances and complaints, can be one of the healthiest things a couple can do for their relationship. A lasting marriage results from a couple’s ability to resolve the conflicts that are inevitable in any relationship. Many couples tend to equate a low level of conflict with happiness and believe the claim “we never fight” is a sign of marital health. But I believe we grow in our relationships by reconciling our differences. That’s how we become more loving people and truly experience the fruits of marriage.

      - John Gottman, Ph.D.

For many couples, it’s the little everyday issues that cause big arguments.

      We hear complaints like:

      • She can never decide what to wear.
      • She spends an hour getting ready to go out.
      • She always tells me how to drive.
      • He walks over the underwear pile.
      • He doesn’t see the mess that the kids made.
      • He calls me about what to feed the kids on my “girls night out.”
      • He promises to do projects around our house and never gets to them.

The little chronic fights that couples (including us) have, will become big disagreements, and build tremendous resentment if not handled properly. Since Bob and I just had one of them, we thought we would share it with you and show how we handled it.

Watch this video to hear Lori and Bob share their most recent “little fight” and tell you how they worked it through (until the next one).
