    • This Week on WomanTalk Live: “This Chapter – It’s a Wrap” with Colleen McKenna and Kim Fabian

      Thursday, December 26, 2013

09.22.12 - Colleen McKenna    Kim Fabian
                Colleen McKenna                        Kim Fabian

Back at the end of July when I thought about finishing up the show at the end of the year, it seemed a ways off.  But, you and I know that time flies and the last show of the year AND the last WomanTalk Live show on WCBM in Baltimore is coming up this Saturday.

Joining me in the studio this week to close it all out will be two of my good friends, who, coincidently, have been guests and/or guest hosts on WomanTalk Live.  But, friends first – Colleen McKenna and Kim Fabian.

We’ll be doing some reminiscing, talking about what’s next (I’m not finished talking yet), and about the women who have inspired us all along the way.

I can’t think of a better way to close the door on 2013, to wrap up my time on the show in Baltimore after seven fun years, and to make way for the new – and being able to do it with good friends.  Grateful… that’s me.

Hope you can join us.  The more the merrier!

Tune in on Saturday, December 28th, from 6:07-7:00 pm ET on Talkradio 680 WCBM Baltimore or “Listen Live” online.

You can also download the WCBM 680 app at iTunes or for Android

Be sure to check out last week’s show – Lynette’s Law: Catching the Professional Predator – when I talked with Heather Lynette Sinclair who is the founder of Lynette’s Law for Maryland, a grassroots movement that seeks to spread awareness about sexual exploitation by mental health professionals.  Heather is a passionate advocate and activist for victims’ rights.

If you missed the show or you want to share it with a friend, it’ll be in the podcast archive soon!  Promise!  It’s the December 21st show.

      Thursday, December 19, 2013

      12-21-13 - Heather
      Heather Lynette Sinclair

In times of innocence or maybe too much trust in those we believe are here to protect us/support us/keep us safe, there are more reminders for all of us just about everyday that just because someone is a teacher, a priest, a coach, a doctor or the nice person who lives down the street…there are predators out there.

Joining me in the studio this week to talk about the issue of predators in the mental health professions is Heather Lynette Sinclair who is the founder of Lynette’s Law for Maryland, a grassroots movement that seeks to spread awareness about sexual exploitation by mental health professionals.

Heather’s movement created a two-bill legislation package that aims to require criminal history checks for all mental health professionals and to criminalize sexual exploitation by those same professionals.

House Bill 56, Lynette’s Law, was passed into law by the Maryland General Assembly in April 2013 and now requires those criminal background checks.  But, there’s more to do.

In addition to her lobbying and advocacy work, Heather is in the process of forming a national non-profit, National Alliance Against Exploitation by Professionals (NAAEP).  The mission of this group will be to empower both professionals and the public by spreading awareness about the sexual exploitation and boundary violations within the mental health profession and to empower victim-survivors of therapist abuse by advocating for their emotional, educational and legal needs.  NAAEP seeks to push legislation that will require the mental health profession to be held to the highest legal and ethical standards possible.

Join us this week to learn more about Heather’s important and much needed work and find out how your voice can be heard to support this issue.

Tune in on Saturday, December 21st, from 6:07-7:00 pm ET on Talkradio 680 WCBM Baltimore or “Listen Live” online.

Over the past eighty years that Girl Scouts have been selling cookies, Girl Scout Cookies have become among America’s favorite desserts.  In fact, who doesn’t love a good Thin Mint every once in a while?

And, in addition to the love affair we have with these cookies, the Girl Scout Cookie sale is the largest girl-led business in the country.  Often, it’s the first entrepreneurial venture for a girl.  Many times, I’ve heard adult women talk about their experience of selling cookies and being a Girl Scout and how it helped ignite their interest in business and helped them to develop skills that became helpful down the road.  Who knew a box of cookies could do so much?

Well, this year the cookie sale has been extended and there’s lot of excitement going on… a new baking partner, new recipes and healthier options!  Like what?  No artificial flavors, no artificial colors, no high-fructose syrup, no hydrogenated oils, vegan friendly options and a brand new gluten-free option.  Healthier cookies and options for special dietary needs make these treats even more special.

Joining me in the studio this week to talk about the cookies, the business of selling cookies and why gluten-free and that option is good for some will be:

Taylor Williams –  a 16 year-old junior from Howard County, MD who is a real cookie-selling veteran.  For the past twelve years, Taylor has hit the streets with enthusiasm and this year, she’s trying to beat her all-time highest sale of 400 boxes.  Wait until you hear about her brilliant sales tactics.

Danita Terry – the Director of Communications & Media Relations for Girl Scouts of Central Maryland

Amy Lettman, MS, RD, LDN, CDE with the Diabetes Center of The Maryland Metabolic Institute at Saint Agnes Hospital

Join us this week for this yummy show.

Tune in on Saturday, December 14th, from 6:07-7:00 pm ET on Talkradio 680 WCBM Baltimore or “Listen Live” online.

Does this happen to you a lot?

      • You have 150 emails in your inbox today and have no time to read them, let alone answer them or even decide where to file them.
      • You have a friend who wants to have long conversations via text messages instead of
on the phone.
      • Your cell phone is constantly being bombarded by Facebook, Twitter or Instagram
notifications… both wanted and unwanted.

Over the past decade, 24/7 connectivity has given us not only convenience and fun, but it has also brought us worries about privacy, interruptions when we’re trying to work or spend time with friends and family, and a whole bunch of new habits – from constantly checking our messages to spending hours watching videos on Youtube, pinning on Pinterest or poking on Facebook.

For anyone who has ever wondered if their smart phone or tablet was actually an enemy invader, join me this week when I talk with Anne Katherine, therapist and author of the newly released, Boundaries in an Overconnected World, a practical book that teaches you how to establish healthy boundaries to protect your safety, your privacy and help you save some time everyday.

Listen in this week to hear Anne’s strategies for ensuring “that your life is truly your own.”  Sounds great, eh?

Tune in on Saturday, December 7th, from 6:07-7:00 pm ET on Talkradio 680 WCBM Baltimore or “Listen Live” online.

If you missed the show or you want to share it with a friend, it’s in the podcast archive now.  It’s the November 30th show!

With a few exceptions, every worker 25 years old or older automatically receives a personalized Social Security Statement three months before their birth month each year.

If you receive your Social Security Statement and promptly tuck it away in a safe place never to be looked at again, I’ve got one thing – no two things – to say to you:

      1. Go get it
      2. Listen to this week’s show

My guest this week, the WomanTalk Live Wealth Expert, Leonard Raskin, the CEO of Raskin Global and Women Getting Wise on Wealth, will be joining me to talk about everything you need to know right now and for the future about your social security benefits.

While checking out your future Social Security benefits may not seem that exciting right now, what you don’t want is to be surprised when you see the first check. Unless, of course, you were expecting it to be lower.

Tune in on Saturday, November 30th, from 6:07-7:00 pm ET on Talkradio 680 WCBM Baltimore or “Listen Live” online.
