Sexually abused as a child from ages 6-8 ½ at a friend’s home and then later abused by a cousin from ages 11-13, Erin Merryn has turned her nightmare and personal cause into a very public cause with the creating of Erin’s Law. The mission of Erin’s Law, which has passed in six states and is currently being introduced and voted on in ten other states, is to provide age-appropriate curriculum on the prevention of sexual abuse by empowering children with their voices instead of allowing sex offenders to silence them. How do we empower children? By teaching them what to do. What’s the cost of not doing so? More tragedy, more heartbreak, more fear, more devastation – and more stories like Jerry Sandusky showing up in the news (if someone finally brings them to light). Erin’s mission is to get Erin’s Law on the books of all fifty states and is traveling the country to further her mission. This brave, young woman has put a very vocal face on childhood sexual abuse.
Guest: Erin Merryn, activist, author, speaker, Glamour Magazine’s 2012 Woman of the Year, creator of Erin’s Law
