This Week on WomanTalk Live: “Are Women FUNNY?… You Bet!” – a Conscious Conversations Café Show with Meshelle – The Indie-Mom of Comedy, Michele “Wojo” Wojciechowski and Ray Diva
Thursday, August 1, 2013“Why are women, who have the whole male world at their mercy, not funny? Please do not pretend not to know what I am talking about…
Precisely because humor is a sign of intelligence (and many women believe, or were taught by their mothers, that they become threatening to men if they appear too bright), it could be that in some way men do not want women to be funny. They want them as an audience, not as rivals.”
- Christopher Hitchens, “Why Women Aren’t Funny”, Vanity Fair, January 2007“..they make you hire a certain number of chicks, and they’re always the least funny on the writing staff. The reason why you know more funny dudes than funny chicks is that dudes are funnier than chicks.”
- Adam Carolla, “The man’s man”, New York Post, June 16, 2012Maybe these guys who seem to belong in a different time and place have missed a few women who immediately popped into my mind: Lucille Ball, Betty White , Gracie Allen, Phyllis Diller, Gilda Radnor, Lily Tomlin, Whoopie Goldberg, Ellen DeGeneres, Paula Poundstone, Wanda Sykes, Kathy Griffin, Melissa Mccarthy, Kristin Wiig, Tina Fey, Margaret Cho, Amy Poehler, Jenny Johnson…. and, who did I leave out???
